- No, it's Sub2.5!
Name Change[]
After the release of SubFLF HD I think this game's name should be changed to "Submachine: FLF" since that seems to be the main name for these two games now. While I understand that the two versions of the game are vastly different, Mateusz Skutnik uses this name on www.mateuszskutnik.com/submachine for FLF's dot, which leads to a choice between both versions of the game. At the top of this decision page, Mat named the title "Submachine: FLF" instead of "Submachine: Future Loop Foundation".
Mat also stated in FLFHD that this version, unaffiliated with Future Loop Foundation, was titled "Submachine: FLF". I further request to break this page into three main parts: One is for locations and basic backgrounds of the story, two is for "Submachine: Future Loop Foundation", and three is for "Submachine: FLF". Please resond with comments or suggestions on this matter. I am willing to fix any redirects or broken links on the Wiki that may resolve because of this. Thanks for considering! - The name of the original game hasn't changed. The HD version is different enough to warrant it's own separate page, I think. Mordikai wartwunson (talk) 00:10, May 3, 2015 (UTC)
- I think that's a fair compromise. Also, should the theories on this page be moved somewhere else? They don't really fit in the model of the other game pages (especially the more recent ones) but I don't want to throw them out completely. Error 3113 (talk) 01:17, May 3, 2015 (UTC)
Theories[]
I cut and pasted the theories on the page here. This way they're not taking up the main page but they are still around for later sorting.
The "Player Is Delusional" Theory[]
Several aspects of the game hint towards the player being delusional (or at least not having a firm grasp of reality), and nothing really contradicts this. For example:
- You start the game inside a padded cell.
- When trying to hit a light switch, the call of an owl is heard (though this is a clue to look at the numbers that appeared on the owl picture that can be used later to listen to music).
- Some things do not appear until you need them.
- A Space Hopper can be found in the ruins.
- Travelling to another location by stepping through a projected slide (or through a picture on the wall) seems even more hallucinatory than most other methods of travel in the series.
The "All Just A Dream" Theory[]
Many of the examples listed above could also hint at the game being a dream (or traveling to the FLF location through a dream). In addition, at the beginning of Submachine 5, the player finds him/herself next to a bed. A note from Mur later in the game then asks, "Sleep well?" However, this message could also simply be a reference to the beginning of Submachine 5, as the player begins Sub5 in someone's living quarters. At the end of FLF the player says "I know where I must go now...to find the root of all this." which could be a reference to the player going to the root or it could have just been a title drop of the next game. This may be more than a dream, this could be some kind of dream traveling that has never been seen before.
The "Human Experiment" Theory[]
It could also be that the Submachine captured some humans to run mental tests on them, trying to figure out what they are vulnerable to.
The "Research Lab" Theory[]
This base could be some orientation center for Mur's new recruits or where Mur and other scientists researched and almost could cure the memory loss (or maybe both). Here are several reasons to support this theory:
- Near the end there was a room with a projector and chairs set up for some kind of assembly. (In a room that looks like it is part of the Lighthouse Digouts.)
- At the end the player says: "It's all coming back to me now, and I almost remember my name." Which may mean that this part of the Subnet has special properties.
- There are many pictures, videos, music, and objects (like the space hopper) which the player seems to recognise. These could be memories that the submachine has absorbed and then projected into the room.
