The ward is a location in Submachine: Future Loop Foundation.

Architecture[]

The first room of the ward is modeled after various padded rooms used historically in mental hospitals. It has padded white walls with rips in the fabric. An old stereo sits in the corner with a key tied to a string on one of the wheels.

After exiting the padded room via a white door, the outside of the building can be accessed. The building containing the padded room has a narrow wooden outcropping that wraps around to the back. A keycard calls a second, larger building into view. It is not clear whether the padded room building ascends or the second building descends, or both. After the second building stops descending, a metal walkway slides to connect the two buildings. This mechanism can be seen in the second building as a mass of metal beams and joints.

Both buildings have plain, slightly faded concrete beige walls and are suspended in the void. In the second building the player can ascend to a room labeled "Storage" that contains twelve storage cabinets. These can be opened and a projector slide can be obtained (the cabinet in which it is found is randomized every game). The slide can be taken to the main level and inserted in a small projector that will display a faded picture of am middle-aged-to-elderly woman. Clicking on this picture will transport the player to the memory bank.

A ladder leads down two floors to a room resembling a metal box in the likeness of the stone loop. The player can view the padded room building outside this room and the room above it. Unidentifiable symbols can be seen and used later in the memory bank.

Trivia[]

  • The player manages to leave the padded room by using a conveniently placed tape recorder. The entirety of this part of SubFLF seems like it was created especially for the player.
  • A round orange toy can be found in the stone loop-resembling room. Upon clicking on it it bounces and squeaks. The toy resembles a United Kingdom 1970s space hopper, complete with the "kangaroo" graphic.

Both buildings have plain, slightly faded concrete beige walls and are suspended in the void. In the second building the player can ascend to a room labeled "Morgue" that contains twelve storage containers. These can be opened and a projector slide can be obtained (the cabinet in which it is found is randomized every game). The slide can be taken to the main level and inserted in a small projector that will display a faded picture of am middle-aged-to-elderly woman. If the player moves up to the floor in between the last two mentioned, they will find a rope tied to a ladder rung that stretches across the gap between the two sections of this location and disappears in a crack in the left wall. A short dig-out leads to a small alcove with an orange wall, designed much like the walls of the pyramid. An orange candle illuminates a photo set in a frame.
